U.S. Xpress Optimizes Inter-company Transportation Operations with Cordys

Cordys Business Operations Platform Enables Shared View of Data, Loads and Equipment for Efficient Truckload Management Across U.S Xpress’ Growing Family of Companies

San Jose, California – October 13, 2008 – Cordys, a global leader in next generation Business Process Management (BPM), today announced that U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc., the nation's third-largest privately-owned truckload carrier, has chosen Cordys as their solution for inter-system integration and business process optimization.

U.S. Xpress, having grown significantly through mergers and acquisitions, was facing long and complicated integration projects to integrate the systems from their various subsidiaries. This limited their ability to manage transportation projects and assets across their family of organizations, as well as their ability to derive leverage through economies of scale. Before selecting Cordys, they had looked at making significant investments in other technologies, none of which proved sufficiently robust, scalable, or flexible to be viable long-term.

Of highest priority, U.S. Xpress needed to share information and integrate processes between their various companies in order to maximize efficiency. As examples, they wanted to be able to load trucks from multiple subsidiaries, or to be more efficient and responsive to customer requests by utilizing the nearest truck for a pick up or delivery, irrespective of which subsidiary organization owned the truck. The company also sought to make integrating future acquisitions easier and faster, without requiring them to scrap the systems in place at the acquired companies.

“Our strategy is to operate each company independently, but we wanted a way to share data, loads, bids and equipment in a seamless and timely manner,” said Steve Cleary, CIO, U.S. Xpress. “The reasons for choosing Cordys were numerous, including their ability to quickly integrate disparate systems in a common view and overlay that with business rules that are flexible and easily configurable by a business analyst. Cordys provides us the opportunity to overcome our challenges with inter-system integration, on-boarding new acquisitions, billing and payroll—and will give us a higher consolidated view both financially and operationally”

Cordys Business Operations Platform is an integrated solution that enables the trucking companies within a broader U.S. Xpress umbrella to expose each other's orders. The Cordys solution will integrate multiple existing legacy systems and will provide greater visibility for orders and capacity from family carriers. U.S. Xpress will be able to match orders to available trucks no matter where they are or to which company they belong. And, as the new trucking companies become a part of the U.S. Xpress family, their experience being integrated into the broader family of companies will be streamlined and simplified.

“This industry is marked by extensive consolidation, and managing a complex network of systems, legacy infrastructure, databases and business processes has become a daunting, costly and complicated task,” said Janet Heppner-Jones, President, Cordys Inc. “Yet the ability for transportation and logistics providers to have a unified view across their organization and quickly adapt to change is critical in maintaining their competitive edge. We are proud that the Cordys platform delivered for U.S. Xpress where other solutions did not. Cordys is dedicated to enabling our customers to get visibility, orchestration and control of their complex systems and processes with a lower total cost of ownership and quicker return on investment than traditional software development lifecycles.”
